HISTORY

Bulldog and Bull Terrier breeds were created in early 19th-century England for the popular spectator sports of bull- and bear-baiting. When those sports were deemed inhumane and became illegal in 1835, dog-fighting sprung up in its place — and thus was the trait for dog aggression bred into the genetic line. But another part of this breed’s genetic makeup is an unwillingness to bite humans. Handlers reaching into the dog-fighting rings wanted to be able to separate dogs without getting hurt themselves. Quite soon the breed developed a reputation as a strong, protective Bulldog puppies, but one also known for being gentle and family-friendly. When these “bulldogs” accompanied immigrants to America they began new careers as all-around farm dogs.

Our Prospective

Their jobs included hunting wild game, guarding the property against animal intruders, and providing companionship. In keeping with the “bigger is better” mindset of their new country, the settlers developed a dog larger than it had been in England. In 1898 the UKC, Britain’s equivalent of the AKC, named these bulldogs the American Bulldog Terrier. The AKC decided to recognize the breed in the early 1930s — but under a new name. Intending to separate it from its pit-fighting past, the AKC named it the American Staffordshire Terrier. Since then the American Staffordshire Terrier has been bred for AKC conformation, or dog shows, while the American Pit Bull Terrier has not been. The results are very slight differences in build and in personality.

How To Care For English Bull dogs

The fur care of the English Bulldogs proves to be unproblematic. All you need is a special dog glove to clean the fur, which should be stroked from time to time. Eyes and nose wrinkles, on the other hand, require daily cleaning and grooming to avoid infectious diseases.

Furthermore, bulldogs are very heat-sensitive dogs. Longer walks or excursions should be avoided during a hot period. The energy requirement of the dog depends on several factors. For example, age, activity level, size and weight play a decisive role. The dog’s state of health should also not be ignored. For example, dogs suffering from diabetes need special diabetes dog food.

As English Bulldogs tend to be overweight due to their breed, attention should be paid to the correct diet in addition to sufficient exercise. For this purpose, the amount of food should be adapted to the dog’s energy requirements. Depending on the activity level of the four-legged friend, the amount of food must be adjusted. Thus, more active dogs need more energy than dogs that are more comfortable. To be on the safe side, you should put your English Bulldog puppy on a scale regularly.

How to care for a French Bulldog

The French Bulldog is a robust and also very frugal dog. Due to its facial wrinkles and other peculiarities, there are, however, some things to consider when caring for it.
If you decide to have a puppy bulldog as your constant companion, it should be a matter of course to obtain information about the nature and character of the puppy bulldog, but also about its nutrition and care, before buying (see also Buying a French Bulldog). By nature, this Bulldog is robust, healthy and can reach an advanced age. Although it does not have high demands in terms of care, some important points should not be ignored, especially here, so that the Bulldog can feel completely comfortable.

⦁ The bulldog puppy has by nature a very short, smooth and shiny fur. This is very pleasant for its owner, because he hardly finds dog hairs in his/her home. Also a regular visit to the groomer can be avoided. The fur of the French Bulldog is not shorn or trimmed. It is completely sufficient to brush it extensively in the direction of the fur from time to time or to remove the loose hair with a nap glove.
⦁ Since it likes to be cuddled and stroked, it likes this attention, which also stimulates the blood circulation of the Bulldog’s skin.
